Description Features Networking Specifications Related Products

RedCap (Reduced-Capability) is a 5G lightweight terminal technology that aims to reduce the cost and complexity of 5G terminals while adapting to medium-rate application demands. It supports low-cost and low-power 5G terminal communication for applications such as industrial wireless sensors, video monitoring, and wearables.

Compared to eMBB and URLLC, NR RedCap technology has lower network service requirements but higher requirements than LPWA (such as NB-IoT). RedCap transmission reduces the complexity and cost of 5G terminals by reducing the maximum transmission bandwidth, simplifying the number of RF links, and modulation methods. RedCap terminals in FR1 frequency band support a maximum of 20MHz bandwidth with the option of 1T1R or 1T2R antennas.

As an example of wearables, RedCap technology can meet the downlink peak rate of 150Mbps and uplink peak rate of 50Mbps for smartwatches, smart bands, and medical monitoring devices. The energy-efficient design enables the battery to last for several days or even 1-2 weeks.

RedCap technology's key enabling features include terminal recognition based on msg1/msg3, access control, terminal energy-saving enhancement, and dedicated BWP functionality.
